Mobile Marketing Expert or Mobile Marketing Ninja

robot-ninja1

Expert is defined as having authoritative knowledge or skill in a particular area.  Ninja is loosely defined as a skilled warrior, simply the best of the best.  It is said that bullets dodge ninjas and that in an average living room there are 1,242 objects ninjas could use to kill you, including the room itself.

I digress.  The question is which would you rather be considered; A Mobile Marketing Expert or A Mobile Marketing Ninja?

I prefer the latter but either way, I can help you with this.  The world of mobile is rapidly expanding at a rate almost equal to that of the known universe.  For this reason, the simple change velocity makes things like becoming an expert or ninja seem unattainable.  If you feel this way STOP.  The speed at which technology is evolving is creating niche expertise demand in many sectors, especially mobile!  We are talking about an industry that for all intensive purposes began in the US in 2007.  That means the playing field is pretty level.  At best the guy with more experience than you has 5 years on you.

Every major market in America has room for at least 10 mobile marketing experts.  Smaller markets outside the Nielson top 20 probably have room for 3-5 mobile marketing ninjas and itsy bitsy towns across the USA need at least two mobile marketing experts to create competition.  Kinda like having a Lowes and Home Depot across the street from one another, they create market and feed off each other.

So know you know there is room for you to do this and the best competition is only 5 years ahead of you, now how do you become an expert?

Start by interviewing vendors and asking lots of questions.  SMS providers, SMS aggregators, Mobile Ad Networks, Mobile Site Tools providers etc.  They have a ton of knowledge that they love to share with anyone that will listen and potentially buy from them.  Take notes, it will be like drinking from a fire hose.  You can go back and sift through it later.

Secondly subscribe to, participate in, and read the industry authority blogs and forums.  I recommend Mobile Marketer DailyMMA SmartbriefMobile Marketing Watch and if I am going to recommend a Mobile Marketing Ninja to follow it would be Derek Johnson at the Tatango Blog, the kid knows his stuff and does a great job in sharing his knowledge and positioning himself as a thought leading ninja.

Then set up some Google Alerts for keywords like: “Mobile Marketing” “SMS Marketing” and “Mobile Friendly”.  This way, each day your email inbox is filled with the latest that Google finds regarding these topics.

Finally take Kim Dushanski’s Mobile Marketing Boot Camp course.  This will be several hundred dollars very well spent.  Kim has courses for those who are considering getting into mobile marketing and advanced courses for selling mobile marketing as a service.

Learn from doing.  Get out and find some businesses that need help and don’t know where to start.  Remember, some definitions of expert is merely knowing more about a topic than I. Implement mobile strategies for your customers.  Measure the ROI and the response.  Create mobile marketing case studies to show your new prospects.  Rinse and repeat.

Most importantly be passionate.  Become knowledgeable and proclaim the Gospel of Mobile every where you go.  I use the term Gospel because Gospel means “Good News” and there has never been better news to marketers than the ability to engage their customers one on one 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What happened to Yeez Mobile SMS?

yeez

Not sure but one thing is clear. Another one bites the dust.

October 18th, 2012 Warrior Forum posts reported that long time White Label SMS provider Yeez Mobile is missing in action.  The web site is down and social media posts have stopped.  Several SMS Resellers posted on the forum that calls and emails were not being returned.

At Anchor we hate to see this happen and will not speculate as to the circumstances or situation.  However we are concerned that many Yeez SMS Resellers are without service and their customers are experiencing a painfull situation regarding mobile marketing and SMS.

We love our industry and don’t want to see it damaged so we are offering ALL YEEZ SMS Resellers and Customers a price match gaurantee on our Shared Short Codes.  Simply call us and let us know you were with Yeez and we will get you back up and running immediately on a stable platform.

Yeez:

When you yawn and sneeze at the same time, leaving you in limbo between both worlds!

Mobile Marketing Automation & SMS Lead Nurturing

mobile_marketing_automation

There is a log of buzz lately amongst enterprise size companies regarding Mobile Marketing Automation and Lead Nurturing as it pertains to Inbound Marketing.

Inbound Marketing is based on the concept that today’s consumer, whether B2B or B2C, has the power to regulate what types of marketing they receive. Both B2B and B2C consumers ought to be assessed with the same principles when it comes to inbound marketing. The power of receiving information is given to them by the technology at their disposal and in their hands. This technology is primarily provided through Google and other search engines, and is amplified by the ease of use and mobility offered by using the technology on smart phones and tablets.

The new consumer paradigm is defined as “Selective Consumption”, meaning that the consumer decides when they want or need a product or service, and then begin searching online for more information. This information is delivered in the form of web pages, articles, press releases, social media and online review platforms. It can also include premium online content like eBooks, case studies, white papers, webinars and videos.

The consumer formulates a list of preferred vendors BEFORE making first contact. Inbound marketing is the process of creating marketing that people love via the offerings of valuable, quality and most importantly FREE content online. The company that can do this on a regular basis floods the Internet with good, useful content and will win the heart of the consumer by reaching them at the exact right moment and with the right product information.

This is the key to selective consumption. Once they have selected you as potential vender, they need multiple EASY ways to contact you or request that you contact them. This is known as Calls to Action and Conversion Tools. Once these tools are implemented, the difficult part of engaging the consumer and getting them to come to your business has already been accomplished.

Mobile Marketing is a spoke in the Inbound Marketing wheel. Consumers typically use the mobile device to conduct online query and research. Since mobile devices have become so integral in the customer’s researching process, it is imperateive that mobile marketing be part of an inbound marketing strategy. This includes but is not limited to mobile friendly sites, mobile web apps, QR codes, SMS calls to action, mobile video and more. This will allow for potential customers to be met with relevant, useful marketing in a primary way in which they are apt to receive it.

What most marketers don’t yet realize however, is that Mobile Marketing can be automated, thus creating the need for Mobile Marketing Automation platforms. The benefits of automating these mobile marketing tools is that instead of flooding potential customers with spam, a relevant message is sent to potential customers based on their previous actions.

Examples of mobile marketing automation and mobile lead nurturing include:

  • SMS Keyword Opt-Ins with SMS Auto-Responders carrying links to premium mobile friendly online content
  • Time Release or Drip SMS campaigns triggered by select SMS keyword actions (just like email lead nurturing)
  • SMS Scheduling (the ability to schedule SMS marketing in advance)
  • SMS platform integration with Social Media (so when you release an SMS it also goes to Twitter and FB)

Mobile Marketing Automation can be achieved through the use of Mobile Marketing Automation platfroms. Like any marketing software as a service, you need to focus on training to create efficiency and deliver measurable results. The software essentially is only as useful and beneficial as the worker’s operating it behind the scenes. Furthermore, you must also focus on Mobile Marketing Association best practices, FCC Guidelines and Carrier regulations.
